Kapla is short for the phrase "Kabouter Plankjes", which means “pixie planks” in Dutch. Tom Van Der Bruggen, a Holland native, created Kapla while studying and restoring a 19th century chateau in the South of France. He designed the specific size and shape replicating the wooden beams of the time. Kapla was created with imagination and education in mind and its success has been partially a result of great interest from schools and museums.
