It serves it's purpose in that it holds a lot of toys. We bought this chest for our son's 1st birthday, however, he is still too small to actually reach any toys in the chest. He can easily access the underneath bins and plays with them like drums. I was disappointed that the bins just sit underneath the chest and are not contained, so that when you move the chest the bins do not go with it. Also we had to take the lid off for now because there is no safety feature. It just sits on top of the chest. It's too heavy for my son to lift up. He can, however, easily slam it down if it's left open. Also, if it is open, it can easily fall down on his head. So the cute toy chest is slightly less cute without the lid until my son is old enough to safely lift the lid up and down.
