Blue Frida with Che Signs Offi Pillow

As a young man, Michael Roman paid the bills as a bike messenger in New York's lower east side. He frequently delivered packages to Andy Warhol's labs, and received a great deal of inspiration as an aspiring stencil and screen artist. Today, Roman’s technique, known in the design world as "Latinissmo," combines Warhol techniques with old-Mexico methods and ancient images, and his art is known for its authentic, hand-wrought look. Roman has designed for Carlos Santana, Madonna, and Keith Richards, and his work adorns album covers, Hotel VIP rooms, movie sets, and night clubs. He has a permanent display at the Oaxaca Heritage Museum in Oaxaca, Mexico, and sits on the Board of Directors for the Mission Cultural Center in San Francisco, where he also teaches classes to aspiring students in the Mission district.
