Simon Maidment is the director of Sam Design, Ltd. in London. He has exhibited his work extensively at such sites as the Crafts Council and the Design Museum London, and received a Peugeot Design Award in 2001.
Maidment’s original design for the Roll-top Chair he created for Offi showed with the Vitra Design Museum throughout Europe, Japan, and North America. He designed the chair in response to a childhood memory. As a child, he says, “I never really understood the concept of tidying up. This chair is a place for things to be stored as well as a seat. The nature of the storage and the way it is revealed affords it a secret quality, allowing kids a hiding place for their stuff.”
